Staying in Ashton Hayes
We are a small village with a thriving community shop and pub and have no hotel or B&B but some of our supporters have places you might like to stay.
Camping, caravan or motorhome
If you fancy camping or caravanning you might like to try the nearby Delamere Forest Camping site which is run by the Camping & Caravanning Club. The site was developed with a strong environmental theme by the Strudwick family who live in Ashton Hayes. The beautiful site sits on the edge of the ancient forest, by Delamere Railway station and is handy for the Go Ape Experience and Forest Centre. From there you can get hourly trains on Arriva Trains Wales to Mouldsworth station and walk along our new footpath to the village, stopping for a drink at the wonderful Goshawk pub on the way. It is a lovely 20-minute stroll and you can get a meal and real ale at the Golden Lion - our 'Going Carbon Neutral Pub' which is featured on Sylvia's village website.
Rent Inglenook Cottage for a self-catering holiday
Jenny & Chris Rowland are founder supporters of our project and have restored Inglenook Cottage in the centre of the village to a very high standard (4* Visit Britain Award). It is ideally situated near the pub and community shop. The cottage is very popular with walkers and visitors who want to see Cheshire and places such as Chester, Liverpool and Manchester which are in easy reach. Deaves family stay at Inglenook Cottage using only cycles and public transport
Phil, Mary & Luke (10yrs old) Deaves arrived at Inglenook Cottage (self-catering holiday cottage on Kelsall Road in Ashton Hayes) for a weeks holiday from 3rd – 10th April, using only cycles and public transport . They arrived on the Saturday having travelled from their home in Swindon by train to Manchester then via train to Mouldsworth and from there using their collapsible bicycles which they can carry on as hand luggage if required arrived at the cottage for their holiday.
Their use of public transport and bicycles was a life style choice, they have no car anyway and live close to work and shops and public transport in Swindon, so is cheaper and more environmentally friendly and find no need to use a car. This is their 2nd year of travelling on holiday using bikes and trains and managed to visit all the places they wanted to get to. This year they wanted to visit the North West and Inglenook Cottage had availability over the Easter period and was within 2 miles of a train station which was there essential criteria and also centrally placed to visit all the places of interest!
Phil Deaves quoted “If you plan and put your mind to it it’s simple without a car, we’re not bus users (due to travel sickness) but if we were it would have helped if more frequent, we prefer trains and trams anyway, and we did everything we set out to do”.
They hadn’t heard about the Ashton Hayes Carbon Neutral project before arrival but do support the ethics behind this project.

If you want a more modern place, with a spa/pool try Forest Hills Hotel that overlooks the Mersey.
